Ohio waste containers, OH waste containers: What you need to know

A report released Thursday by the Ohio Waste Container Commission (OWCC) details the state’s waste collection system and its requirements for containers.
The commission, which is part of the Ohio Department of Environmental Protection, is tasked with collecting waste containers statewide and has also been working with municipalities and counties to address waste containers in their communities.
The agency also reported a decline in the number of containers per capita and the number that are still in service.
In 2015, there were about 1.6 million containers in use in Ohio, but the number is down to about 1,700 today.
It’s been a tough year for the state, which was hit hard by the Great Recession and the opioid crisis.
